So Who Is This Guy...
And Why's He Doing This?
Nice To Meet You
Many of you know a few things about me, but I wanted to use this issue as a more formal introduction to who I am and why I'm doing this.
Growing Up
I was born in 1988 and if my math skills serve me well, that makes me 34 years old. I grew up outside of Reading, PA as an only child. My Boomer mom and dad both held public service related jobs for their entire lives.
I played football and baseball in high school and had some minor successes. When I wasn't playing sports, I was watching Nickelodeon and riding my bike in our neighborhood. Growing up without siblings was lonely and sucked in many ways but it made me the strong, resilient and stubborn person that I am today.
College Years
When I graduated high school, I went to college because according to my parents, there was no other choice. The nearest college I considered attending was 4 hours away. I ended up attending college 7 hours away. College was a great time and I was able to find and do things that I never got to experience at home. Fast forwarding a little bit, I graduated in 2010, during the Great Recession (insert foreboding music here) and couldn't find a job. One that would be so easy to find after graduating college. (Thanks Boomers)
So What Did I Do Next?
You guessed it, moved back in with mom and dad while attending grad school. I also met a pretty swell gal during my time at college who was two years younger than me. I earned my MBA in a little over a year while the cute girl finished up her degree. Fast forwarding a little more, we got married and ended up moving across the country to the West Coast.
I had several dead end jobs that were totally miserable. We had three kids within three years of each other and at 29 years old, we decided for me to go into the military. A few years later, here we are!
About Me
I love my family and I love my job. Yes, I know I'm fortunate to have those two things. I'm writing this newsletter because I am a creative person and struggle finding a creative outlet. I've tried podcasting but writing fulfills me much more.
I've written two books about serious topics and want to continue writing, but about FUN things. I'm a very serious, person. I'm probably too serious. That's what this newsletter is for me, it's fun! I'm trying to "find my fun voice."
When I'm not writing, you can find me listening to pop punk music. I'm a huge music snob. If I could do anything in the world for a job, it would be something revolving around music, specifically pop punk.
I like lifting weights, riding our Peloton and reading LITRPG books. Being married and having three kids it amazing and also takes up a lot of my free time.
If you want to see what I'm doing on the daily, follow me and give me a shout on Twitter (link at the bottom).
Name That Pop Punk Tune
This is a brand new section and I'm not quite sure if it will work, but what the hell?!
You'll find my poor attempt at performing a vocal cover of a small section of a pop punk song. It may be a classic or a new song from an artist you've never heard of.
This week's is from a band that I know you know, but a lesser known hit
As always, the struggle is real, but you got this!
