Blink is Back!
A Brief Blink History, Part I
Reunited and it Feels So Good
On October 11, 2022, Blink-182 announced that the original (kinda) three members of the band are reuniting for a world tour and album. Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker are back together with promises of the old-school blink music that we all love.
A Brief History
It's no secret that blink 182 is one of my favorite bands of all time. I think that in addition to Green Day, they were on the cutting edge of creating the "pop punk" genre. How did blink come to be a band?
The beginning is somewhere around 1992 in the suburbs of San Diego, CA. Tom was expelled from his high school and forced to attend another school. At his new school, he met drummer Scott Raynor and through a friend, was introduced to Mark Hoppus.
Tom and Mark has in instant connection and similar taste in music. It wasn't long before they started jamming in a garage. Sometime in late 1992, they wrote the song "Carousel" together. They practiced, wrote some songs and recorded a demo called Flyswatter in Raynor's bedroom in May 1993.
Blink started playing locally in the San Diego area and eventually in 1994 made another demo, Buddha. Blink signed with label, Cargo Records in 1995 on a "trial basis" and released their debut album, Cheshire Cat.
The band toured and was invited to join Warped Tour in 1996. They began to get a lot of buzz and began recording their next album, Dude Ranch over a one month break in touring.
They began releasing singles beginning in April 1997 but wasn't until their second single, Dammit, where things really started to blow up for them.
That's it for today, be on the lookout for Part II in the near future!
