Episode 3 | Drink Beer and Play Atari
"Atari," Lucky Boys Confusion
Drink Beer and Play Atari
The title has nothing to do with today's content. It's my newsletter, so I can pick goofy and irrelevant songs for the titles. While I don't drink much beer nowadays, I enjoy an occasional video game. I've never actually played a real Atari, only some of the classic games on emulators.
I saw this awesome thread a while back and wanted to share it with you. I am a HUGE fan of LITRPG books (like Ready Player One) and when I saw this way to "gameify" things in your life, I think it resonates with our generation.
Cam is a Gen Z (boo!) but as I've said before, this newsletter is about helping people. There are no agreement requirements. Check out his thread HERE and give him a follow on twitter, HERE.
How do you feel about crypto? It's allegedly the "future" but I can't help but be skeptical. I totally believe that blockchain technology and creating digital ledgers of transactions is incredible technology, but I think that it needs to be further developed and more widely accepted before it goes mainstream.
What do you think, is crypto here to stay? How long until we see it used for more "common" transactions?
Have you ever heard the phrase, "you can't out work a crappy diet?"
Well as one who denied that almost my entire life, I am here to tell you that the statement is true. I used to eat whatever I wanted and then go for a run, thinking that I burned off all of the food that I ate. Not even close.
While I was on a deployment, my wife started doing this thing called "macro tracking." It had something to do with weighing your food and tracking your calorie, protein, carbs and fat intake. Depending on your fitness goals, you ate to certain levels of each one of those metrics.
If you wanted to lose weight, you ate fewer calories and adjusted the other metrics. When I got back home, I was intrigued. I thought that there was no way that one could weigh each meal out before eating it, totally ridiculous.
So, I tried it.
My first discovery was that I was eating WAY more than I thought I was eating. I remember the first time that I weighed out a serving of pasta, my mind was blown. 56 grams of pasts is a serving and about 200 calories. Spoiler alert, it's not a lot of pasta.
Weighing my food gave me an awareness that I did not have about what I was putting into my body. Three years later, I've lost a total of 30 pounds and can run laps around the previous version of myself.
If I can do it, you can do it. Reply to this email and we'll get started.

Do you remember going on dates and having your parents have to drop you off place?
Or better yet, your parent driving you to pick up your date and then take both of you to wherever you were going?
The thought of that makes me shudder, so embarrassing. But it was the life we lived!
I can imagine that in today's day and age dating is hard but dating back in our youth was just straight up awkward.
